'Star Trek: Resurgence' Gets a Release Date and Some Screenshots
APRIL 27, 2023 - Back in October we reported that video game maker Dramatic Labs had delayed the release of their much-anticipated narrative game Star Trek: Resurgence for the second time. But now we know that gamers will be able to get their hands on the game in just under a month, on May 23. It will be available for Playstation 5 and 4 consoles, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and exclusively on the Epic Games store for PCs.
According to the press release,
Star Trek: Resurgence is a bold interactive narrative game set shortly after Star Trek: The Next Generation's timeline. A worker uprising threatens the tenuous peace between two alien civilizations, and Starfleet is forced to intervene. Players experience the conflict and larger mystery from two key perspectives. The U.S.S. RESOLUTE's First Officer Jara Rydek is part of the diplomatic envoy led by Ambassador Spock that's tasked with finding a resolution – and uncovering the ultimate source of this tense situation. Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz highlights how the mission plays out from the lower decks, caught up in the events in his own unique way. Throughout the gripping story, players can interact with the Star Trek universe like never before, with moments of authentic action and critical decisions that shape the broader narrative in subtle and unexpected ways.
Dramatic Labs is a video game production company made up of more than 20 writers and designers who once upon a time worked at Telltale Games. Telltale produced narrative-based games, including a Back to the Future game and a series of Batman games, where every choice you made affected the way people interacted with your character and the outcome of the game. The company became defunct in 2018.
Star Trek: Resurgence’s gameplay looks to be similar to Telltale’s style, and given the character- and story-driven nature of most Trek properties, it should make for a fun and interesting game. Either way, we’ll know in a month.
