STAR TREK Shows Shine in Visual and Sound Editing Nominations

Three STAR TREK shows are up for awards.

Star Trek has been a fan favorite for nearly 60 years, but industry insiders also recognize the talent and artistry that goes into bringing the shows to life. This year, multiple Trek shows have been honored with nominations in both the Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards and the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) Golden Reel Awards.

At the 22nd Annual VES Awards, scheduled for February 21, 2024, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, the industry will celebrate outstanding visual effects across various media. The Visual Effects Society, a global honorary society, announced that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was nominated for Outstanding Created Environment In An Episode, Commercial, Game Cinematic Or Real-Time Project for the episode “The Broken Circle.” Production crew members Nathaniel Larouche, Owen Deveney, Mujia Liao and Alex Morin were all recognized in the nomination.

But the appreciation doesn’t stop there as the Star Trek franchise has also received notable recognition at the 71st Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards, emphasizing the incredible sound editing work behind these series. Star Trek: Lower Decks, with its episode “Old Friends New Planets,” is nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Broadcast Animation. This nomination underlines the show's commitment to creating an immersive auditory experience, complementing its vibrant animation style.

Additionally, Star Trek: Picard secured a nomination in the Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Broadcast Long Form Effects/Foley category for the episode “The Last Generation.” This nod to Picard reflects the meticulous attention to detail in the sound design, enhancing the show's narrative and emotional depth.

The MPSE Golden Reel Awards, set for March 3, 2024, in Los Angeles, celebrate the world's most talented sound artists and their contributions to feature film, television, animation, computer entertainment, and student productions.
