APRIL 15, 2021 - Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has reportedly had a close brush with COVID-19, as a guest star who flew to Toronto to film tested positive for the virus. A piece from Deadline.com reported the story yesterday, explaining that the guest star was not on set, had only come into contact with a few crew members, and that “according to sources”, production of the new series was not impacted.

The unnamed guest star is believed to have come from Vancouver and was tested as part of standard testing procedures that are in place to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 infection in film and television productions. According to the Deadline piece, people who had been in close contact with the actor have been quarantined, and no one else has tested positive.

The report comes amid a province-wide stay-at-home order for Ontario, which includes Toronto. The order, which went into effect on April 8th, is in response to a recent rise in COVID-19 cases. In the province, workplaces can open with modifications, such as a COVID-19 safety plan, but we don’t know exactly what those modifications might be for the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds set.
