Star Trek: Strange New Worlds lead Anson Mount is looking for ideas to help dogs, with a Trek twist
JULY 21, 2021 - Star Trek: Strange New Worlds actor Anson Mount has pet lovers fired up on social media this week. Mount posted on Twitter, looking to crowdsource ideas for supporting pet adoption with a Star Trek twist, and fans were all too eager to share their thoughts.
Mount’s original post read, “Currently brainstorming how to create a dog adoption support and/or incentive system that involves Star Trek. Ideas welcome.”
With his post, the ideas started pouring in. Fans suggested many ways to get Mount’s idea off the ground, including offering Star Trek-themed adoption packages, donating the proceeds from Trek pet supplies to a pet adoption cause, and what seemed to be the most popular suggestion: teaming up with other Star Trek actors to “engage” fans in considering pet adoption.
Seemingly without fail, this led several Twitter users to recommend working with Sir Patrick Stewart in his efforts to campaign for the adoption of pit bulls, and changes in U.K. legislation to allow for their ownership. According to a report from StarTrek.com back in January of 2020, Stewart “renewed [his] acquaintance” with dogs while working with his onscreen dog, Number One, on the set of Star Trek: Picard. That experience inspired him to adopt a pit bull of his own, Stewart’s first dog since he was a child. In response to the idea of Mount working with Stewart, Twitter user @NoctriTy wrote, “Anson [Mount] and Sir Patrick would make excellent ambassadors for whatever program they come up with.”
Of course, dogs aren’t the only pets that need adopting, and several users were quick to point out that there are plenty of cats in need of a good home as well.
We can only hope for the best for this initiative. If, and when, any developments arise, you can be sure that we’ll bring you all the details.
