Star Trek writer Kalinda Vazquez inks multiyear deal with Netflix
DECEMBER 19, 2021 - Kalinda Vazquez has been writing, editing, and producing for television for at least the last fifteen years. She appeared on the Star Trek radar by penning the Star Trek: Short Treks episode, “Ask Not” as well as the Star Trek: Discovery season three episode, “Terra Firma, Part 2.” Then last spring Paramount Pictures tapped her to write a new Star Trek film. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, she has signed a deal with Netflix.
The new multiyear overall contract will have Vazquez creating, writing, and producing series and other projects for the streaming service. Her first project will be Arbor Hall, a YA drama/thriller series.
Vazquez said of the new arrangement, “It is a huge honor and joy to have a creative home at a place where originality is trumpeted and creators’ unique visions are fostered. I am so excited for what is to come.”
Alex Sapot, Netflix’s director of overall deals, sees Vazquez as “a rare talent with a passion for genre storytelling and a trove of ideas and original concepts.”
