JUNE 16, 2023 - Emmy season officially began on June 15, and Star Trek: Picard is building buzz as a longshot contender for the coveted prize.

Liz Kloczkowski, the art director for Star Trek: Picard Season 2 and 3, kicked things off a day early with a tweet offering a sneak peek at a “for your consideration” package she had prepared with fellow designers Kit Stølen and Dave Blass. The 110 page document is a treasure trove of set photos that serves as a reminder of the extreme attention to detail that went into the production of the show.

Historically, shows across the Star Trek franchise have done well in the categories like special effects, but have come up empty in the major categories. Cast members think this year could be different.

Jonathan Frakes, who reprised his Next Generation role of Will Riker in Picard, told ScreenRant that he has high hopes.

“TNG was the only Star Trek series to get the best drama nomination back in 1994,” he said. ”Maybe Picard will be considered. Maybe lightning will strike twice… It would be a great way to finish things up. Get Patrick a nomination, get the show nominated. It’d be just brilliant.”

TrekMovie.com also reported that CBS and Paramount+ are mounting an FYC campaign to get the series noticed. This includes recreating the famous 10 Forward bar at a Hollywood location and ads both in trade papers and on billboards.

In an effort to boost the campaign’s visibility, Picard showrunner Terry Matalas shared an image of one such billboard in a tweet.

With voting now underway, fans will have to wait almost a month to know which, if any, categories Picard has been nominated for. All of the Emmy nominees will be announced on July 12 with the Creative Arts ceremony being held on September 9 and 10. The main Emmy Award winners will be announced during a live broadcast on FOX on September 18.
