There’s a new official Star Trek: Picard podcast, if not the one we were expecting

The Official Star Trek: Picard Podcast

Coinciding with the release of the first episode of Star Trek: Picard, we also got the first episode of the official Star Trek: Picard podcast...albeit in a slightly different manner than we expected.

Back in July, at San Diego Comic Con, Star Trek head honcho Alex Kurtzman announced that a new official Star Trek podcast would be premiering in the Fall, called “Prime Directive”. That podcast was due to be hosted by Tawny Newsome, one of the voice actors from the upcoming Star Trek: Lower Decks animated series. Well, Fall came and went, and no official podcast. No official word, either, on what was going on.

Until yesterday, when a piece from Deadline announced the arrival of the official Star Trek: Picard podcast, sponsored by CBS All Access and hosted by two Deadline Hollywood editors. Quoting the piece: “The Star Trek: Picard Podcast is a weekly series of in-depth and informed discussions with the stars and creative team behind CBS All Access’ anticipated series on the ideas, strategies and geopoetics behind the 10-episode first season of the Patrick Stewart-led series. The podcast is sponsored by CBS All Access and hosted by Deadline’s Senior Editor Dominic Patten and Genre Editor Geoff Boucher.” The podcast is hosted on Anchor and does not yet appear to be available on major podcast platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google Podcasts.

The first episode of The Star Trek: Picard Podcast runs half an hour, and features interviews with producers Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon and Alex Kurtzman, as well as with Picard himself, Sir Patrick Stewart. For the time being, it looks like the only way to listen is in the Anchor.fm app, or on Deadline’s website.
