MARCH 15, 2023 – If you’ve been watching Star Trek: Picard, you’ve met Captain Liam Shaw. And your first impression of Captain Shaw might have been along the lines of, “Wow, that guy’s a ….” Well, you know.

In a conversation with Collider, Todd Stashwick, who portrays Captain Shaw, talks about his character and moments on the set, including a particular perspective-altering scene in episode four. So if you follow the full interview, there are spoilers over there.

Stashwick said that his wheelhouse is characters that you love to hate and hate to love, but, he says, “When you hear his logic, and you hear his reasoning, even in Episode 1, you're like, "The guy's got a point." Even if it's delivered caustically, sarcastically, dripping with sarcasm, or passive-aggression, he's not wrong.”

He goes on to discuss the Particular Scene, which he calls the “Machu Picchu,” the “defining moment” of Shaw’s story. He also expressed his appreciation of working with Jeri Ryan and Jonathan Frakes, the latter of whom was his director in Burn Notice.

And then there is the story of Brent Spiner coming on the set and being introduced to Stashwick by Sir Patrick Stewart, who called Stashwick “one of us.”

“My heart popped,” Stashwick said about that encounter.
