Virtual Trek Con announces LLAPy Awards, where fans can vote in iconic Star Trek categories
JANUARY 31, 2022 - Virtual Trek Con 3 is coming in March, bringing with it a first-of-its-kind Star Trek awards show! The first annual “LLAPy Awards” will be broadcast live on YouTube Sunday, March 20th as part of Virtual Trek Con 3. Virtual Trek Con is known for being one of the first virtual science fiction conventions to spawn from pandemic lockdown restrictions. The “LLAPy Awards” will be an interactive event for fans, focusing on significant achievements in Star Trek, as well as fan-favorite moments from across the franchise.
The best part? There is no “academy” voting on these awards. Star Trek fans are the “academy”, casting their votes in categories that are rather unique to the franchise. There are more than 20 categories on which to vote, such as “Favorite Singing Moment”, “Best Visual Effects for Its Time”, and “Funniest Moment from Star Trek: The Next Generation”. Over the past week, fans have had the opportunity to add their own nominations for each category, and to vote on existing ones.
Nominations for category finalists closed Sunday night, January 30th. To review all of the categories and their respective nominations, visit the Virtual Trek Con Facebook group. Once you’re there, you also have the option to join the group, and to join the discussion!
Finalists will be revealed live on YouTube on the Virtual Trek Con show, “The Main Viewer” on Tuesday, February 1st at 5pm PT/8pm ET. At the time of publication, voting dates/times for category finalists have not been announced, but we do know that fans will be expected to cast their ballots via Google Forms.
Virtual Trek Con 3 is a fully virtual, fan-interactive, free event happening March 18-21, 2022. The weekend’s events will include dozens of celebrity interviews, panels, live shows, games, and more! The inaugural “LLAPy Awards” will be broadcast live March 20th on the Virtual Trek Con channel on YouTube.
