You can see a new documentary about Star Trek's first captain, William Shatner, this summer

STAR TREK's William Shatner is getting his own documentary

JULY 1, 2022 - A new documentary highlighting Star Trek icon William Shatner will get a special preview at San Diego Comic Con this summer. Variety reports Shatner has teamed up with Legion M and Exhibit A Pictures to produce a new film focusing on the prolific career of the 91 year old actor. The new documentary will be directed by Alexandre O. Phillipe, and will have a special “first look” at a panel in Hall H at SDCC, with sci-fi legend Kevin Smith moderating the event.

“For years I’ve had people approaching me to do a documentary about my life,” Shatner said of the partnership, “but I turned them all down because it didn’t feel like the right fit,” But when Legion M made the move to engage fans in producing the documentary, getting on board was a no- brainer. By giving the fans ownership over the doc, Shatner felt “it was perfect.” He went on to say, “Fans have been responsible for my career — it only seems right that they should own this doc.”

Legion M co-founders Paul Scanlan and Jeff Annison remarked on the partnership, saying “From make-believe starship captain to a real-life rocketman, William Shatner has led one of the most unique and best-lived lives on the planet [...] While we all know him from his iconic roles, the REAL William Shatner is even more interesting. We’re thrilled to be working with Alexandre and the top-notch team at Exhibit A, and excited to give fans around the world an opportunity to be a part of Bill’s legacy.”‘

SDCC is scheduled to run July 21-24. To learn more, and to get your tickets to San Diego Comic Con, visit comic-con.org.
