Alex Kurtzman has been in contact with Noah Hawley over Star Trek 4
The last we heard, director Noah Hawley had been tapped to helm the next Star Trek film for Paramount. He told Deadline at the time that he has his “own take” on the franchise, and that there’s apparently “no mandate” from Paramount to connect his film with the TV side of the franchise, despite the fact that the recent ViacomCBS merger has theoretically removed the organizational divide between the two. The last time we saw a Star Trek movie that tied into the TV side of the franchise was 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.
Despite Hawley taking care to delineate his film from current TV developments, it would appear as though he is, at least, having conversations. In an interview with Variety back in January, the entertainment news magazine asked Alex Kurtzman, head honcho of Star Trek on the CBS side, whether he had been in contact with Hawley over his upcoming film. According to Variety, Kurtzman nodded. “We just emailed the other day,” he said. He went on to confirm that they did talk about Trek. The conversation quickly moved on though, and as Variety put it, “His expression was so neutral, one could almost mistake him for a Vulcan.”
While Kurtzman and Hawley have been in contact about what could be Star Trek 4, it’s clear that any further details are likely to be a way off.
