Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz Honored at the National LGBTQ Task Force Gala
Star Trek: Discovery stars Wilson Cruz and Anthony Rapp were honored over the weekend at a gala for the National LGBTQ Task Force.
CBS 4 in Miami covered the story, in which Cruz and Rapp were recognized for their “contribution to expanding the human rights of all those in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer communities.”
At the event, entitled “50 Years of Fierce” Rapp talked about Star Trek as a vehicle for social equality. He said, “Star Trek has always presented a vision of the future where the things that have divided us as people over the centuries – race, gender, sexual orientation, age, color, all of that – none of that matters in Starfleet. It’s solely about who you are as a human being and what you are inside that matters.”
Cruz, who once worked for the Task Force, credited them for their work in the community. “To be honored by the Task Force for my work as an actor and as an activist is incredibly moving to me,” he said. “I know the hard work this organization does on the ground, in the grassroots, on the state level, on the city level, on the municipal level, so it’s incredibly moving.”
We’ll be seeing more of Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz’s on-screen relationship in season three of Star Trek: Discovery, now in production, and expected to debut late 2020.
