JUNE 6, 2021 - Star Trek fans in Canada got some good news this past week with the announcement that television network CTV has secured the rights to broadcast both Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Prodigy, according to a press release from CTV’s parent company Bell Media. Both shows will be airing on CTV’s specialty Sci-Fi Channel, which is already home to Lower Decks, as well as Star Trek: Picard, which was the network’s “most-watched entertainment specialty program ever”, and Star Trek: Discovery, which was CTV Sci-Fi Channel’s highest rated program of 2021.

The announcement also confirmed that Lower Decks season two will premiere in Canada on the same day as the United States: August 12th. No Canadian release date for the new shows was given, which is no surprise since the premiere dates in the US have also yet to be announced. As noted in a story on TrekCore.com, new series of Star Trek programs have typically been released in Canada “within about a day of the US release on Paramount+,” and are also offered on-demand through Crave, Bell Media’s subscription streaming service.
