FEBRUARY 13, 2022 - We are 10 episodes into Star Trek: Prodigy, and one of the aspects of the series that has impressed fans is the musical score. While Michael Giacchino composed the main theme, Nami Melumad is the composer of the rest of the score. Now Melumad has said that she is also composing the score for the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, this time with Star Trek: Discovery composer Jeff Russo providing the main theme.
TrekCore dropped the news over the weekend following Melumad’s announcement on the Strange New Pod podcast. Melumad, an Israeli-Dutch composer based in Los Angeles, is the first woman to compose the score for an episode of Star Trek and for a Star Trek series, the Star Trek: Short Treks episode, “Q&A” and Star Trek: Prodigy, respectively.
Apart from Star Trek, Melumad is known for her work in such films and television series as An American Pickle, from HBO Max, and Absentia, from Amazon. Among other awards, she recently won a BMI Film & TV Award for the film festival short, Colette, won an International Film Music Critics Association Award for the VR video game, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, and she was nominated for a Jerry Goldsmith Award for the short film, Over the Wall.
Regarding her, well, scoring the gig for Strange New Worlds, Melumad said, “I’m super, super excited; I can’t wait for the show to come out. This is the Star Trek show that will make a lot of people happy — and will make me very happy! I’m just delighted, everything is top-notch… I can’t wait for you guys to see it!”
