CBS All Access adds user profiles, along with expanded kids’ features and content
DECEMBER 10, 2020 - CBS All Access continues to improve their service ahead of next year’s rebranding to Paramount+. Yesterday, ViacomCBS announced the launch of new product features for families on the service, one of which is user profiles.
Billed as part of a suite of “family-friendly features”, the new user profiles will support up to six profiles, and they can all be managed using “Kids Mode” if desired. Kids Mode allows parents to create profiles that limit content to either older or younger children based on content ratings. Kids Mode here complements the already-existing parental PIN controls that locks access to mature content.
Upgrading CBS All Access to allow for user profiles is a big step forward for the service, bringing it closer to being on a level with streaming giants Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Hulu, all of which already support multiple user profiles. So if you’re into Star Trek: The Next Generation and your partner prefers The Original Series, soon your feeds will be less cluttered.
ViacomCBS are pushing the user profiles mainly as a family-focused improvement to CBS All Access, and they bundled the announcement in with another saying that they’ve added almost 800 more episodes of children’s programming. Included in that list are selected past seasons of Nick Jr. shows Blue’s Clues, Bubble Guppies, Dora the Explorer, and Paw Patrol (which, like Star Trek, has not been cancelled).
Rob Gelick, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Streaming Services and Chief Product Officer, ViacomCBS, said, “With today’s new product enhancements, like ‘Kids Mode’ and multiple profiles, we can create customized experiences for each member of the household [...] and allowing parents additional peace of mind with the ability to further customize what programming is available to their kids.”
