DECEMBER 16, 2020 - In case you’re worried that Chris Pine’s busy career means that he’s moved on from Star Trek, well, there’s apparently no need to worry. In an interview with ComicBook.com earlier this week, Pine signaled he’s still on board, so to speak, and he’d even be interested in that idea-that-won’t-die: Tarantino Trek.

Pine was speaking to ComicBook.com about the impending release of Wonder Woman 1984. But as all Trek alumni must know by now, you can’t escape questions about the elusive, theoretical Star Trek 4.

The interviewer asked Pine about whether he knew anything about the Tarantino-penned version of a new Star Trek film. It’s one of three that is currently on an indefinite back burner with Paramount Pictures, and while it won’t be directed by Tarantino, he did help develop the script, which was written by The Revenant’s Mark L. Smith. The story is supposedly based on the Original Series episode “A Piece of the Action”, and Tarantino himself has been complimentary about the Kelvin Timeline crew’s performances. But Pine? He knows nothing about it.

“You know, I haven’t [read a script],” Pine said. “I wish I knew anything. I’m quite literally one of the last people ever to find out. [...] I have no idea what’s happening in Star Trek land.”

Pine was quick to point out, however, that Star Trek is still a place he’d like to play. “I love the character, I love the universe, I love my friends in it,” he said, before continuing, “To have a Quentin [Tarantino] take on it would be tremendously interesting and entertaining. Whatever happens, if I come back or not, it’s a great universe, it deserves to have a future, and I hope that is the case.”

Pine’s remarks to Comicbook.com this week are nothing new, of course, they reflect pretty closely remarks he made back in April. Paraphrased: if there’s a next installment, he’d love to be a part of it. In other news, water is wet.

Be sure to catch Chris Pine in Wonder Woman 1984 when it comes out next Thursday.
