Former Star Trek Producer Brannon Braga Will Direct Clive Barker’s Books of Blood for Hulu
NOVEMBER 1, 2019 - Star Trek writer and producer Brannon Braga has signed on to direct his first feature-length film. According to a piece from The Hollywood Reporter, Braga has been tapped to direct an adaptation of Clive Barker’s Books of Blood for Hulu.
Star Trek fans will best know Braga as a prolific Star Trek writer, often writing stories with a body horror theme. Braga was the writer of the Next Generation season seven episode “Phantasms”, which I talked to Chuck Joiner about last week, on his podcast, Trek Favorites. In addition to television episodes, Braga also wrote the screenplays for the films Generations and First Contact. Outside of Star Trek, Braga has written and produced for a number of well-known television series, including 24, Flash Forward, and Terra Nova, and he’s currently an executive producer and writer on The Orville.
Books of Blood will mark Braga’s feature film directorial debut. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will tell three tales from Barker’s series, and will feature actors Anna Friel, Britt Robertson, Rafi Gavron, and Yul Vasquez. Braga is co-writing the project with Adam Simon, with whom he previously worked on the television series Salem. Books of Blood is a notable addition to Hulu’s growing original movie roster. It’s expected to premiere in the fall of 2020.
