Heather Kadin, executive producer on several Star Trek series, exits Alex Kurtzman's Secret Hideout
DECEMBER 15, 2021 - Heather Kadin, President of Television for Alex Kurtzman’s production company Secret Hideout, is stepping down, to be replaced by the company’s own Aaron Baiers. The announcement was made earlier this week and reported by Deadline.
After 12 years with Secret Hideout, Kadin is leaving the company to “pursue other opportunities”. During her tenure Kadin also served in the same capacity at another production company, K/O Paper Products, which was co-founded by longtime writing partners Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Regarding Kadin’s departure, Kurtzman had nothing but kind words, saying “Heather and I have spent 12 extraordinary years together, and in that time she’s been a brilliant creative force whose passion and dedication have been felt by the many writers and directors we work with at Secret Hideout. I’m certain she’ll carry that passion into the next phase of her amazing career [...] and I wish her every success and happiness on her bright road ahead.”
The loss of Kadin will surely be felt in the Star Trek franchise. Kadin was instrumental in the development of multiple Star Trek series, and served as an executive producer for Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Short Treks, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
“I’m incredibly proud of what our team, Alex and I were able to build at Secret Hideout and at K/O Paper Products,” Kadin said in a statement. “Over the past 12 years I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the best writers, actors and directors in television and I‘m excited to build on that in this next chapter of my career.”
