Jonathan Frakes Reflects on the Conclusion of Star Trek: Discovery
MARCH 10, 2023 – When it comes to Star Trek directors, one name has risen over the years to near if not at the top of the list for all sorts of reasons: Jonathan Frakes. He has directed 38 television episodes across the franchise as well as two films. He is now putting his mark on the concluding season of Star Trek: Discovery.
In an interview with IGN, Frakes talked about finishing up the series and making adjustments to the story now that it’s known season five will be the final season of Disco. Additional filming is to take place due to the announcement, and, says the veteran director, “I'm told they have a very satisfying fix so that it will conclude in a way that will tie the story up. And I think they've figured out how to do it. So they're going to go back and shoot and add to this finale that [producing director] Olatunde [Osunsanmi] and I did.”
Frakes has seven previous directing credits just on Discovery, and he reflected on how the series opened doors to new Trek series and the representation embodied in Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz and their characters, among other delights of working on the set. “There's so much about that show that was so Star Trek and so important,” he said.
