Julie McNamara, Shari Redstone named to THR’s 2019 Women in Entertainment Power 100
Two women making waves at CBS have been named to The Hollywood Reporter’s 2019 Women in Entertainment Power 100.
The annual list, which compiles 100 women “pulling in box office billions, running the streamers, sealing innovative deals and charting the future of an industry in flux,” named Julie McNamara and Shari Redstone to the Execs category.
McNamara, the Executive Vice President of Original Content for CBS All Access, has led the streaming service as it surpassed its original 4 million subscribers target, two years earlier than planned. She’s also overseen the development of flagship series Star Trek: Discovery, as well as The Twilight Zone and The Good Fight. Just last month, CBS All Access announced that they were expanding their original content team under McNamara’s supervision, and are expecting 14 original series to come in 2020, on top of the nine already to date.
And then there’s Shari Redstone. Part of the powerful Redstone family, Shari has led the board of CBS for years, and is now chairman of the board of the recently-merged ViacomCBS. Quoting The Hollywood Reporter: “The union of National Amusements' crown jewels [CBS and Viacom] closed Dec. 4, giving [Redstone] control over a sprawling portfolio of media assets that now live under one umbrella. No other female executive can boast a comparable footprint.”
Other notable women in the top 100 include Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama, as well as executives, artists and talent reps from across the industry.
