Michael Dorn joins fellow Star Trek actors Sonequa Martin-Green and Zachary Quinto in the upcoming animated series Invincible
OCTOBER 15, 2020 - Michael Dorn, best known for playing Worf on Star Trek: The Next Generation, has lent his voice to several video games and animated series in the past. And now, it’s just been announced, the actor will be joining the cast of Invincible, the upcoming animated series based on the comic of the same name. The announcement was made by Invincible creator Robert Kirkman at a brief (but energetic!) New York Comic Con panel over the weekend. Dorn is joining fellow Star Trek actors Sonequa Martin-Green and Zachary Quinto on the series.
After previewing the new trailer for the series, panel host Hector Navarro admitted to being a fan of the comic in its initial run and had one question he wanted to ask more than any other. Will Battle Beast be in the series? “We’re definitely getting Battle Beast [...] He’s 100% in the show,” Kirkman said, to Navarro’s delight. Admitting that he might be “breaking protocol”, Kirkman went on to spill the beans. “Michael Dorn is doing his voice. There’s a scoop for this panel [...] I love Michael Dorn. He was absolutely amazing doing the voice. It’s… it’s… It’s everything I’ve ever wanted. I was in the recording booth, and I was almost crying.”
For those who don’t know, Battle Beast is an enemy of the lead character, Mark Grayson. An extremely tall, wolf-like creature, he is easily stronger than a human and has a lust for battle. Having spent so many years as a Klingon, Dorn just might have some prior experience to draw from to influence his performance.
Also in the cast are notable actors Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, Mark Hamill, Seth Rogen and Ross Marquand. Initially planned for release on Amazon Prime Video in 2020, the series has been pushed back to sometime next year.
