Netflix Announces Christmas Day Release Date For STAR TREK: PRODIGY Season 1
NOVEMBER 10, 2023 - Just over halfway through Netflix's Geeked Week 2023 came the news that fans of Star Trek: Prodigy had been waiting for: the first season of the acclaimed animated series will drop on Christmas Day.
This was undoubtedly welcome news to many fans of the show, who were stunned in August when Paramount announced the show was being canceled by the network, even though a second season had been greenlit and was nearing the end of production. Shortly after that announcement, the show was pulled from the Paramount+ streaming service.
After a huge outpouring of support from fans, show producers vowed to finish their work and find a new home for the second season. Finally, in October, it was announced that the show was moving to Netflix, but exact release dates were not announced.
Geeked Week is an annual event that Netflix hosts to showcase its upcoming slate of genre-based series and films, primarily focusing on science fiction, fantasy, horror, and comic book adaptations. The event typically includes a series of virtual panels and announcements, often featuring cast members and creators of various Netflix shows and movies.
During Geeked Week, Netflix reveals trailers, teaser clips, release dates, and behind-the-scenes content for its most anticipated new titles and returning series. The event is tailored for fans who are passionate about genre storytelling, aiming to build excitement and engagement around these projects. The announcement for Prodigy was first spotted on the Geeked Week X (formerly Twitter) account.
