New Star Trek: Picard season 3 teaser shows the Next Generation characters 20 years later

JULY 25, 2022 - At San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, Sir Patrick Stewart and Gates McFadden took to the stage with Star Trek: Picard director Lea Thompson moderating to promote the upcoming third, and final, season of the series. As a treat to the fans, the trio shared a teaser for season three, featuring the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. New artwork featuring the Next Gen cast was also released.

In the video, we see each member of the cast appearing in a Starfleet uniform with the exception of Gates McFadden’s Dr. Beverly Crusher, who is in civilian clothing. As each character appears on the screen, we hear their voice expressing a statement of teamwork, perseverance, justice, or sacrifice. The video concludes with Picard reappearing, saying, “As long as you and your crew remain steadfast, you are never without hope.”

Back in April, it was announced the entire cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation would reunite onscreen for the first time since Star Trek: Nemesis premiered in 2002. They won’t be the only faces joining the final season of Picard. In June, LeVar Burton announced his daughter, Mica Burton would join the cast as one of Geordi’s two daughters. “It was a lot of fun on so many levels,” he said of the experience. “The whole storyline really is about the next generation of The Next Generation in many respects.”

Later in June, Picard showrunner Terry Matalas told audiences the final season of the series would be a “passing of the torch”, promising “a new era for Trek storytelling”. Matalas also hinted that we will definitely be seeing more Next Generation characters from outside the primary cast.

The third season of Star Trek: Picard stars Sir Patrick Stewart (Jean Luc Picard), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), Michael Dorn (Worf), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge), Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher), Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker), Michelle Hurd (Raffi), and Brent Spiner - but with all the characters Spiner has played, who’s to say what role we’ll see him in?

Season three is expected to premiere in 2023. Check out the new teaser below!
