New Star Trek: Picard teaser shows Picard and Q looking stylish; reveals “time has been broken”

John de Lancie as Q in Star Trek: Picard season two

JUNE 16, 2021 - Paramount+ celebrated Captain Picard Day yesterday in a big way, releasing a new teaser trailer for Star Trek: Picard’s second season via their official YouTube channel. The teaser, unlike the one released in April, contains actual footage from the new season, including our first glimpse of John de Lancie’s return as Picard’s godlike nemesis “Q.”

Rumors about Picard season two have run rampant ever since it was announced that de Lancie would be returning to the franchise. The April teaser hinted that it would center on the subject of time, even going so far as having Picard declaring it as the “true final frontier.” Given the fact that Q’s interactions with Picard have often resulted in time travel and alternate timelines, fans quickly assumed something similar was awaiting them in this new season. Right from the start of this new teaser, Q seems to confirm these suspicions, saying to Jean-Luc, “Welcome, my friend, to the very end of the road not taken.”

From there we see that time appears to have fractured, as one-by-one we find members of the La Sirena crew discovering themselves in a reality that seems altered and unfamiliar. Throw in a missing Romulan housekeeper, a modified Starfleet insignia, and perhaps most shockingly a completely human Seven-of-Nine (or possibly a never-assimilated Annika Hansen), and it seems there is a time mystery of significant proportions. The narrative thrust of the season comes to light later in the trailer, when an unknown voice says, “Time has been broken,” followed by Picard’s assertion, “We can save the future, and I will get us home together.”

As you wait patiently for 2022 and resonate with Q’s words, “Mon Capitaine, how I’ve missed you,” you can catch up with all episodes of Star Trek: Picard season one, currently streaming on Paramount+.
