Newly Announced 'Star Trek: Picard' Novel Will Explore Seven of Nine's History Post-'Voyager'
JULY 6, 2023 - Star Trek: Picard brought back familiar faces from Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was meant to be a reunion and farewell to the old cast, but viewers were surprised that the series had brought Jeri Ryan back to Star Trek. Jeri Ryan, aka Seven of Nine, had walked away from the franchise years ago at the end of Star Trek: Voyager.
There have been rumors going around that the actress was also going to be starring in the film Star Trek: Nemesis, but she never did. According to Jeri Ryan, she didn’t want to be “type-cast” and thus went on to doing a different series, Boston Public, and leaving the franchise.
Her return to Star Trek would be around two decades later. Reading about what Jeri Ryan did those years, many have wondered what her character Seven of Nine has been doing those past years and soon, you’ll find out in a new novel, which will take place during Star Trek: Picard.
After Star Trek: Voyager’s ending and their return to the Alpha Quadrant, Star Trek Picard - Firewall will feature Seven of Nine and it will be released on February 27th, 2024.
Here is a summary coming from the Amazon’s website:
Two years after the USS Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, Seven of Nine finds herself rejected for a position in Starfleet…and instead finds a new home with the interstellar rogue law enforcement corps known as the Fenris Rangers. The Rangers seem like an ideal fit for Seven—but to embrace this new destiny, she must leave behind all she’s ever known, and risk losing the most important thing in her life: her friendship with Admiral Kathryn Janeway.
David Mack is the book’s author and has stated that on June 11th “the manuscript for the book was about halfway done.” If you want to know more about Seven of Nine’s fate or what happened after the USS Voyager’s return, head on over to redshirtsalwaysdie.com to read more. In the past several years there has been a dearth of novels based on Picard, the last one, Rogue Elements, having been released in June of 2022. According to Mack, “higher-ups involved took three years to greenlight this story.”
With luck, Star Trek: Picard - Firewall will make up for the long wait!
