Paramount+ Discusses Possible Merger With Streaming Service Peacock
According to a recent article published by the Wall Street Journal Paramount+ and NBC streaming service Peacock might be merging into one larger streaming service. Comcast (the owner of Peacock) and Paramount are still in the discussion phase, however, they appear to have high hopes. A merger of these two streaming services could reduce costs for both Paramount and Comcast as they would combine the cost of advertising and production. It would also reduce costs for many subscribers to both of these services.
This would not be the first joint streaming service Peacock and Paramount have. The two companies already have a European streaming service called SkyShowtime. The streaming service was established in 2021 and targets European markets not already covered by Paramount+ or Peacock.
It is not likely we will hear any more news about this possible new streaming service anytime soon as they are still in the very beginning phases of discussions. Paramount Global has been under a lot of stress recently and as we’ve seen in the past couple months they’re been discussing merging with many different companies. With the rise and combination of streaming platforms, it is hard to remain competitive in today’s streaming market.
If Paramount+ does merge with Peacock it is unlikely it would greatly impact what Star Trek is available. It would involve the minor inconvenience of canceling your Paramount+ subscription and moving to this new service, however, considering how lucrative Star Trek is, it would be surprising if Paramount+ decided to remove it from their new platform.
