Preview the finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2 "First First Contact" with new stills and teaser
OCTOBER 12, 2021 - It’s hard to believe, and sad to note, that the season finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks is already upon us. “First First Contact” is the last episode of season two, and the official trailer dropped via the Star Trek on Paramount+ Twitter page gives very little away other than a promise of “an EPIC Captain Freeman Day.”

What we do know is with that auspicious day approaching aboard the USS Cerritos, Ensign Boimler is, unsurprisingly, going out of his way to impress his commanding officer. Painting a banner that looks suspiciously like the “Captain Picard Day” one found in the TNG episode “The Pegasus” (which he had already referenced in the first season episode “Cupid’s Errant Arrow”), Boimler remarks, “My decorations have to be the best.” He remains undeterred, even when challenged by Rutherford’s observation that “Captain Freeman Day” is really just “a craft day for toddlers.”
Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan did offer one other tidbit for the season finale, tweeting out a pic of a new Obena-class starship, most certainly named after Lower Decks Art Director Nollan Obena, called the USS Archimedes.
In a season that has brought us the return of Tom Paris, the first Tamarian in Starfleet, a visit to the Pakled homeworld, and (of course) an Embarrassment of Dooplers, one can only guess what surprises this season finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks has in store. Find out when “First First Contact” premieres on Paramount+ this Thursday, October 14th.
