Rosario Dawson’s two dream roles: Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars and Star Trek’s Q
Forgive me, if you will, for starting with that other “Star” franchise: Star Wars. Hot rumor on the street (which is all but unconfirmed, and has been repeated in no less than The Hollywood Reporter) is that Sin City and Rent actor Rosario Dawson will soon be appearing as Ahsoka Tano in Disney’s The Mandalorian. It’s a dream role, for sure, but it turns out that it’s not her only dream role.
It turns out that Dawson is a huge Trekkie, as is the rest of her family. So much so that she told Variety, in a video interview earlier this week, “The two universes, ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Wars.’ I get in those two, I’m telling you, man, that’s it. I will just retire. And then I can just concentrate on going to school and running for office. That would be it.” Dawson - who is not to be confused with Star Trek: Voyager actor Roxann Dawson - is known for political activism in addition to her acting, and her partner, former presidential candidate and current U.S. Senator Cory Booker, is a Trekkie too.
But who would she play in Star Trek, if she had the choice? She originally thought she could just be a “background Romulan” or Vulcan, with a small walkthrough part. But then Clay Dawson, her brother, insisted that that was aiming low. Clay plays Star Trek Online, and when she suggested she aim for a background role, he “got really mad and said absolutely not”. Dawson said her brother insisted that she “at least be a captain”.
But her dad had a different, grander idea: Q. Dawson explained: “Because...male Q, female Q, young, old Q, they’re all just Q, the Q Continuum. It would be great, because then I could jump on Discovery and I could be on Picard.”
So there you have it. Rosario Dawson’s two dream roles are Ahsoka Tano and Q. Come to think of it, I think those are my two dream roles too. Let’s get on that.
