Sir Patrick Stewart shares why he supports the International Rescue Committee
Sir Patrick Stewart has appeared in a new video in support of the charity International Rescue Committee (IRC). According to their website, the IRC “responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their futures.” They support refugees and displaced people in more than 40 countries and in 26 U.S. cities.
Stewart, in his message, said, “I can't imagine what it would be like to have to suddenly leave my home, where to take my family, how to survive, and most importantly, who will help us. Well, the answer is the International Rescue Committee.” He goes on to explain that the committee was founded by Albert Einstein, and it operates in some of the world’s toughest places, to bring basic needs like food, water, and shelter, as well as education and job training, to people in need.
Stewart continues, “Please join me in supporting the International Rescue Committee. They help families just like yours and mine to survive, recover, and live their lives with hope and dignity.”
Other prominent figures have supported the IRC over the years, including Mia Farrow, Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey, The Princess Bride’s Mandy Patinkin, Morena Baccarin from Firefly, and George and Amal Clooney.
