Sir Patrick Stewart would “get a kick out of” a Star Trek and Star Wars crossover with Mark Hamill
Sir Patrick Stewart and Mark Hamill, hot on the heels of their series of ads for food delivery service Uber Eats, are at it again, teasing fans with their rivalry. But this time it’s over the idea of a Star Trek and Star Wars crossover movie.
A piece from TrekMovie.com this week highlighted a Men’s Journal interview in which the two Star stars discussed their respective franchises, and even commented on the possibility of a crossover between the two. Editor’s note: It’s worth noting that Hamill’s and Stewart’s comments should probably be taken with a pinch of salt, since the interview was ostensibly part of the Uber Eats campaign push.
When Hamill and Stewart were asked “How do you feel when people compare Star Wars to Star Trek?”, Hamill was first to answer, and highlighted what he saw as the primary difference. “I have to say that [the] difference between Star Wars and Star Trek to me,” he said, “is that Trek is classic science fiction, with humans going out to space and encountering aliens. Star Wars was purposely set in a galaxy far, far away because it is fantasy, not science fiction.” He went on to say that the idea that there’s a rivalry between the franchises is “funny”: “I feel like it is really apples and oranges,” he said. “You can like either, or both, or none of them.”
It was Stewart who then brought up the idea of a franchise crossover. He said, “I will admit that, at least for us on Star Trek, we have fantasized about a combined universe between Star Wars and Trek movies. [...] I would personally get a kick out of that.”
The remainder of the interview was fluffy but fun, especially if you’re a fan of both actors. Read it now at mensjournal.com, and of course, if you haven’t yet, hop over to the Newsworthy Videos playlist at youtube.com/dailystartreknews to watch Hamill and Stewart’s series of ads for Uber Eats.
