Sir Patrick Stewart has proven that he can hold his own in Star Trek trivia...but only just! On Thursday, he appeared as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live, which was hosted by former United States presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, while Kimmel was off hosting Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Buttigieg is a well-known Star Trek fan, so after a short interview, the two went head to head in a Star Trek: The Next Generation trivia competition.

“Who’s the Captain Now?” was hosted by Stewart’s Next Generation co-star LeVar Burton, and featured questions like, “Name the only two characters to appear in every episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Which character caused Captain Picard to facepalm?” (That’s Picard and Riker, and Q, if you’re playing along at home.)

Stewart narrowly beat out Trek fan Buttigieg, by correctly answering whether Geordi LaForge wore boxers or briefs. I won’t spoil it for you; you’ll have to watch the game to find out the right answer! But Stewart’s grand prize for winning the competition was to have a star named after him, courtesy of the International Star Registry, an honor which is surely long overdue.

Also on the show, Stewart presented “Mayor Pete” with a signed copy of his working script for the Next Generation season two episode “Where Silence has Lease”, and Buttigieg shared a couple photographs from his childhood, where he can be seen sporting a Star Trek uniform with some friends also dressed up as Trek characters.

You can watch the video of “Who’s the Captain Now?” on Jimmy Kimmel Live’s YouTube channel, and of course you can see Sir Patrick Stewart starring in Star Trek: Picard, now streaming on CBS All Access.
