Star Trek (2009) Costume Designer Michael Kaplan to be Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award
The costume designer behind the Kelvin Timeline Star Trek uniforms is set be honored with a lifetime achievement award.
According to a piece from the Hollywood Reporter, designer Michael Kaplan will receive the award at next year’s 22nd Costume Designers Guild Awards. The award will be presented by Kaplan’s longtime collaborator, Star Trek director J.J. Abrams.
In addition to Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, Kaplan has also designed costumes for such notable films as Star Wars episodes 7 through 9, Burlesque, Armageddon, Se7en, Clue, Flashdance, and the original Blade Runner.
Salvador Perez, President of the Costume Designers Guild, said in a statement, “Michael Kaplan’s prolific career is both diverse and inspiring. [...] The Costume Designers Guild recognizes the impact of his work in the film and television industry and popular culture. We take great pride in celebrating his career and look forward to his continued success.”
The Costume Designers Guild Awards will take place next January 28th at the Beverly Hilton. Nominees will be announced on December 10th.
