Star Trek Adventures tabletop RPG releases Another Roll of the Dice supplement by author Christopher L. Bennett
FEBRUARY 4, 2021 - Modiphius Entertainment, the company behind the popular tabletop role playing game Star Trek Adventures, is releasing a new standalone feature. Another Roll of the Dice is a new storyline, written by science fiction author Christopher L. Bennett. This week, Bennett opened up about his new RPG adventure in a blog, posted to the Modiphius website.
Bennett is the author of more than 30 Star Trek novels and novellas, including a series for Pocket Books based on the Department of Temporal Investigations (DTI), which serves as the foundation for Another Roll of the Dice. Unfortunately, Bennett didn’t see much of a future in the book series and adapted it, instead, for his new RPG story. Bennett wrote in the blog, “My DTI series [...] seemed unlikely to continue as it was set in a version of the post-Star Trek: Nemesis continuity incompatible with what Star Trek: Picard has now established.” Bennett wrote specifically about the series’ characters, saying, “this might be my last chance to work with the versions of [Agents] Lucsly and Dulmur that I had so much fun writing.” It is Bennett’s hope that players will use the new character stats and biographies for their own campaigns in the game.
Instead of changing history, Another Roll of the Dice makes use of alternate timelines. This approach gives players the opportunity to explore different possibilities and outcomes for their characters. According to Bennett, players will use critical thinking to solve a scientific mystery and get involved with what he calls “a dangerous conflict situation against a new class of enemy ships.” The new role-playing adventure could provide hours of entertainment. “Every group that plays it will create an alternative version of its events, featuring different characters and outcomes,” Bennett said of the gameplay.
Another Roll of the Dice is available now in PDF format from Modiphius.net. It complements their existing range of Star Trek Adventures supplements, which cover a wide variety of stories beyond the core game.
