Star Trek: Discovery wins big at the Make-Up and Hair Stylists Guild Awards
FEBRUARY 24, 2022 - As you might recall while watching this space, Star Trek: Discovery was nominated for a Best Special Make-Up Effects award from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild (IATSE Local 706). The show was nominated alongside American Horror Stories, Impeachment: American Crime Story, The Witcher, and This Is Us.
The envelope, please….
And the winner is … Star Trek: Discovery! Represented by Glenn Hetrick, Rocky Faulkner, Nicola Bendrey, and Chris Burgoyne, DISCO received the award in the category of TV Series – Limited, Miniseries, or New Media Series.
Doug Jones, as had been announced, received the inaugural Chair Award. As Jones’ Discovery co-star and captain, Sonequa Martin-Green, presented the award to Jones, he said, “I feel a little guilty receiving an award for basically sitting in a chair while you guys did all the work.”
Martin-Green had said that Jones “is a phenomenal actor, a true artist, a warrior, and a genius of the mind and body. He is a legend. And he is an angelic gem of a human being. I love him dearly.”
Also as expected, Emmy-winning hair stylist Joy Zapata, who worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Generations, and Nemesis received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
