Finally starting to feel like a new year…

Finally starting to feel like a new year…

So listen, it’s the dawn of a new day and all that, but there’s still a pandemic on so let’s have those Star Trek events, and let’s make ‘em virtual!

Gaaays in Spaaace Virtual Celebration with Michael Dorn - Thursday, January 21st

First up: Thursday, January 21st, Gaaays in Spaaace is hosting another of their Virtual Celebrations, this one with featured guest Michael Dorn. In addition to Dorn’s appearance, there will also be live musical performances, trivia, prizes and more.

The event is on from 8pm to 10pm ET and tickets are being sold on a pay-what-you-can basis for a minimum $1 donation. To find out more, visit facebook.com/gaaaysinspaaace.

GalaxyCon Live: Voyager cast - Saturday, January 23rd

Next up, GalaxyCon live is back with another virtual event, this one featuring the cast of Star Trek: Voyager. This Saturday, January 23rd at 4pm ET, Robert Picardo, Robert Duncan McNeill, Tim Russ, Garrett Wang, and of course, the captain herself, Kate Mulgrew, will all take part in a virtual Q&A.

As usual, registration is free but required, and you can purchase one-on-one video chats and personalized autographs if you so desire. For more information, and to register, visit galaxycon.com.

#TOSSatNight Tribbleheader - Saturday, January 23rd

Later on Saturday, but at an earlier time than usual, the weekly #TOSSatNight tweet-along is happening at 8pm PT rather than 9pm PT. That’s to accommodate a special “Tribble-header” featuring watchalongs of the three Tribble-centric Star Trek episodes: “The Trouble with Tribbles”, “More Tribbles, More Trouble”, and “Trials and Tribble-ations”.

All you have to do is have a service you can watch the episodes on demand, then chat on Twitter using the hashtag #TOSSatNight.

For more information, follow @TOSSatNight on Twitter.

What the Femme: Costuming the Final Frontier - Tuesday, January 26th

Looking ahead to next Tuesday, January 26th at 6:30pm PT, our friends at Women at Warp are hosting a virtual class with SIFF, from the Seattle International Film Festival. The class is called “What the Femme: Costuming the Final Frontier” and is part of SIFF’s “What the Femme” series exploring female-representing character archetypes in cinema. The Women at Warp crew will be looking at women’s costuming across several Star Trek series and analyzing what insights those costumes can give us.

Registration is required, and tickets are priced on a sliding scale. For more information visit siff.net.

Daily Star Trek Views - Friday, January 22nd

And of course, don’t forget to join me tomorrow afternoon, Friday at 1pm PT, for the live show Daily Star Trek Views on YouTube. This week, I’ll be recapping some of the week’s biggest stories and maybe some of the stuff that didn’t quite make it into the main show.

Subscribe now so you don’t miss it; head to youtube.com/dailystartreknews.

The regular stuff

And finally, here’s a recap of the stuff that’s going on every week; if you haven’t joined in yet and you’re at a loose end, now would be a great time to do it.

  • These are the Twitter watchalongs:

    • #allstartrek runs Sunday through Friday at 8/7C and follows the Heroes and Icons Channel’s All Star Trek programme.

    • #TOSSatNight starts at 9pm PT on Saturday night and follows a different episode of the Original Series every week, and

    • #StarTrekHour is a Q&A-format event, every Tuesday at 1pm PT.

  • Then there’s Star Trek: Watch Party, hosted daily and coordinated on Facebook. Every evening, they use the Teleparty browser extension to watch Star Trek together. To find out more, head over to Star Trek: Watch Party on Facebook.

  • And finally, Sid City Social Club, hosted by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine star Alexander Siddig’s official fan website, is continuing their twice-weekly livestreams on Fridays and Tuesdays. To find out more, including how to join in, head to sidcity.net.

If you have an online event or gathering you’d like me to promote on the show, let me know! How are YOU getting together with your fellow Trekkies, without leaving the house?
