Star Trek: Picard’s Sir Patrick Stewart gets COVID-19 vaccine, thanks health workers and scientists for their “sacrifice and service”

JANUARY 25, 2021 - As COVID-19 vaccines continue to roll out across the world, Sir Patrick Stewart tweeted a video of his own vaccination, as well as his support for healthcare professionals working on the front lines distributing the vaccine.

In the video, you can watch Stewart receive an injection of the vaccine through the window of his car. After waiting for four hours to receive the injection, Stewart agreed it was “well worth the wait”. Stewart thanked the medical staff and praised their efforts. He shared the video on social media, writing, “How do we say thank you to the health workers and scientists for their sacrifice and service? Receive the vaccine as soon as one can to lessen their load and keep wearing a mask to protect fellow citizens. In my 80th year, I am grateful and hopeful for better days ahead.”

Stewart’s vaccination comes just over a week before the start of filming of Star Trek: Picard season two, which is expected to begin in California on February 1st. While film and television production in the state are allowed to proceed with modifications, California is still one of the nation’s worst COVID-19 hotspots, and at 80 years old, Stewart is in one of the most vulnerable groups for complications from the virus. Both versions of the COVID-19 vaccine currently being given in California require a booster, so Stewart is likely to have another jab in a few weeks. Both vaccines have a 94-95% efficacy against becoming ill with COVID-19, according to the California COVID-19 website.
