Star Trek shares Zoom backgrounds for you to boldly go into your next video call
Well, it’s Monday, which means we’re heading into yet another week of working from home. For some of us, including yours truly, that’s nothing new. But for others, it’ll be another awkward week of working out video conferencing etiquette with coworkers.
Fortunately, Star Trek is here to try and make it all a little better. Last week, the official Star Trek Twitter account posted a series of pictures of the sets of Star Trek: Picard. They captioned the photos: “Our @zoom_us meetings are about to get 1000x better #StarTrek #StarTrekPicard”

The four Picard photos show the interior of Captain Rios’ ship, the La Sirena, Raffi’s trailer at Vasquez Rocks, the interior of a Borg cube, and Admiral Picard’s study at Chateau Picard. All of them are absent any action, so they would make perfect static backgrounds for a video call.
Not to be too Picard-centric, Star Trek followed up later with a few Star Trek: Discovery-themed photos as well, of various sets aboard the titular starship: an empty corridor, the bridge, and the transporter room.

The easiest way to use these backgrounds is by enabling the “virtual background” feature on Zoom. However, if your company or organization has chosen not to use Zoom because of their multiple egregious security issues of late, these backgrounds work equally well with a standard green screen setup.
