Star Trek: Voyager documentary adds $1m Indiegogo stretch goal, aims for limited HD remastering

MARCH 18, 2021 - The upcoming Star Trek: Voyager documentary just keeps on going with its Indiegogo crowdfunding goals! As of this writing, with just two weeks left of their campaign, they’ve surpassed $750,000 in funding, heartily smashing their initial $150,000 target. They’ve now posted stretch goals 8, 9, and 10 to keep the momentum going, and they’ve revealed they’re working with ViacomCBS to offer some truly outstanding perks.

But first, some history: the Voyager documentary was announced last year by 455 Films, the producers of several Star Trek documentaries including For the Love of Spock and the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine documentary, What We Left Behind. They’d intended to spend 2020 filming as the world celebrated Voyager’s 25th anniversary, but only made it as far as Star Trek: The Cruise in early March, before events were largely cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Then back in January, we told you that 455 Films would be launching a crowdfunding campaign to help them complete the film. The campaign started on March 1st, and the team raised more than $400,000 in their first day alone. Fast forward two weeks and they’re still going, adding stretch goals as fast as they can, to keep up with demand. Among the stretch goals already unlocked are filming at the Voyager reunion in London this November, expanding the film from 60 minutes to more than 90, and licensing the original Star Trek: Voyager theme tune by Jerry Goldsmith.

Now, with stretch goals added for $825,000, $900,000 and $1 million, they’re making it truly special, aiming to remaster some Voyager footage in HD. And the top goal promises an “exclusive, never-before-seen Voyager surprise”. That all comes with a disclaimer, of course: 455 Films says, “Goals 8-10 represent the creative intent of the production team, and require the permission and support of ViacomCBS. We are in active conversation with ViacomCBS with specific details still pending. [...] In the event that goals 8 - 10 cannot be completed, funds obtained will be invested in other areas of the production.”
