For the weekend: fan film Pacific 201 is a satisfying nod to Star Trek
MARCH 19, 2021 - If you’re looking for something fresh and exciting to watch, do yourself a favor this weekend and check out Pacific 201, a Star Trek fan film released in two parts last November and December. You won’t be disappointed.
Pacific 201 takes place in the early 23rd century. Decades after the end of a war between Earth and Romulus, tensions are still high and trust is hard to find. Following a memorial service honoring the fallen crew members of the starship Pacific, Commander Alisa Vandre, played by Margaret Herbener, submits herself to questioning from Starfleet intelligence. Despite having filed a full report, Commander Vandre is forced to relive the experiences of a failed scientific mission which cost the lives of many of her crew.
Told largely through flashbacks, the mission in question saw the crew of the Pacific unable to break orbit from a catastrophe in the making. With the ship badly damaged and no hope of rescue from the Federation, the crew is hailed by a nearby Romulan ship, claiming to offer assistance to the Pacific. All is not as it seems however, and soon the crew of the Pacific must decide where their loyalties lie.
If you’re looking for a satisfying nod to the Star Trek franchise, you could do far worse than Pacific 201. In addition to Herbener, the film stars Kacey Troyer, Lindsey Williams, Luke Leone and Jeremy Burkett, and it’s written and directed by Eric “E.C.” Henry. You can watch both Part 1 and Part 2 on Pacific 201’s YouTube channel, now.
