Star Trek’s Gates McFadden tweets throwback photo, unicycling on Paramount lot
Gates McFadden, Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Dr. Beverly Crusher, is an international treasure. You probably already knew that, but just in case, she’s now firmly cemented that status with a wonderful throwback picture from her days on the set of Star Trek.
Yesterday morning, McFadden tweeted, “me on the Paramount lot!!costume department was not thrilled. #unicycles” Accompanying the tweet was a picture, in full Dr. Crusher TNG jumpsuit uniform, riding a unicycle.

McFadden is known not only for portraying Dr. Crusher on six of seven seasons of TNG, plus four films, but even before Trek, she was a well-known dancer and choreographer. For instance, as Cheryl McFadden, she was the choreographer for Jim Henson’s Labyrinth in 1986.
Apparently her Paramount backlot stunt wasn’t her only experience on a unicycle either, as fan @WilsonFrontier later replied to her tweet with a grainy video of what appears to be McFadden performing on a unicycle in front of a studio audience. The source of that video was unconfirmed.
