Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds heading to Skirball Center in Los Angeles in April
The Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds Exhibit is on its way to Los Angeles.
Comicbook.com reports that the exhibit, which originated at MoPOP, the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, Washington, is due to open at The Skirball Cultural Center in LA at the end of April. Previously on at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Detroit, the exhibit features a combination of set and interactive displays for visitors to enjoy.
Laura Mart, Skirball managing curator for the exhibit, said, “Star Trek remains one of the most iconic touchstones of twentieth- and twenty-first-century pop culture. More than fifty years since the original TV show premiered to modest ratings, it has succeeded in shifting our ideas about both technology and human relationships. We welcome fans and fans-in-the-making to explore this phenomenon and celebrate how Star Trek has continued to prove themes of justice, equality, heroism, and optimism throughout seven TV series, fourteen films, and thousands of novels, comics, and games.”
Among the items expected to be on display at the exhibit are set pieces from The Original Series, original set-worn costume pieces, starship filming models, and modern objects (like postage stamps and Star Trek-themed beer) that demonstrate the franchise’s impact on popular culture. According to Comicbook.com, more details about the exhibits are expected to be released in March.
Once again, the Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds Exhibit will be on at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, starting April 30th, and running all summer, until September 6th.
