One of Star Trek’s lead female actors has confirmed that her character was pansexual.

WeGotThisCovered.com pointed to a tweet from TrekMovie, in their piece over the weekend. In the tweet, TrekMovie said, “#STLV @4TerryFarrell says Jadzia Dax was pansexual. ‘The only rule was “are you interesting to me, and do I want to know more about you?”’”.

That was in reference to Farrell’s appearance on a panel at Star Trek Las Vegas, where she joined other cast members from the Deep Space Nine documentary, What We Left Behind, on stage.

Most fans will not be surprised by the revelation; as WeGotThisCovered points out, in the Deep Space Nine episode “Rejoined”, viewers saw Jadzia form a bond and share a kiss with the widow of a former host, Lenara Kahn. While not the first kiss to be shared on television by two women (that honor goes to L.A. Law), it nonetheless commanded a significant amount of both viewership and audience feedback, according to Wikipedia.

It’s also important here that Farrell acknowledged that Jadzia was pansexual, rather than bisexual. Pansexuality is also sometimes known as omnisexuality and broadly speaking, means that gender is not a factor in sexual attraction. In practice for Jadzia, that means that in addition to being attracted to both women and men, she may also be attracted to other-gendered or non-gendered people as well.
