The Official Star Trek Las Vegas convention has been officially postponed.

In April, Creation Entertainment, the organizers of STLV, announced that Copper and General Admission tickets were going on sale, a move that baffled many fans. At the time, Las Vegas was still shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the convention slated to take place in early August, it was unclear what Creation’s plans were to care for the health and safety of convention guests and attendees. Creation has now appeared to address the health concerns of an August convention by postponing the event to December.

In an announcement on Friday, Creation cited safety concerns as the reason for the date change. And with the change of date also comes a venue change. From the announcement: “During these challenging times, the safety of our Star Trek convention attendees, celebrities and staff is the utmost importance to us. [...] Due to the unprecedented circumstances, we must postpone and move to a new venue. The 19th Annual Star Trek Convention’s NEW DATE is now December 9-13, 2020 and is beaming into Caesars Forum Conference Center Las Vegas, the brand-new state of the art, $375 million facility located in the heart of the famed Las Vegas Strip!”

While the new facility won’t quite be all-in-one like the Rio was, the conference center does have what it calls “direct access” to the new host hotel, the newly-renovated Harrah’s Las Vegas.

Fans who had already made plans to head to STLV in August don’t need to change their convention tickets, but will need to re-book hotel reservations. If you were waiting to buy your tickets and the new date and location has inspired you to go for it, then you may have to wait for a bit - Creation says that tickets have been temporarily taken off sale, but will be back available soon. They’re also in the process of reconfirming guests for the convention; they say William Shatner, Walter Koenig, Kelsey Grammer “and more” have confirmed, but to check their website for further updates.

And if the new date means you need to cancel your plans, Creation says you can do that too. That’s significant because normally tickets are non-refundable. But be quick! You only have until June 19th to request a refund for any tickets you may have purchased.

Head to Creation Entertainment’s website for more information about the new date and venue, and refund instructions if you need them.
