TOP FIVE FRIDAY: DISCOVERY Characters We Hope to See in STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY
As the Star Trek universe continues to expand, fans are speculating about Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. While it's a safe bet that Sylvia Tilly will be part of the cast given her trajectory in Discovery, we're left dreaming about which other beloved characters might make an appearance. Here’s our top five list of Discovery characters we hope to see on Starfleet Academy.
5. Adira Tal: A Fresh Perspective on Training
Adira Tal, the brilliant and resourceful science officer, would be a perfect fit for "Starfleet Academy." With their unique experience as a human joined with a Trill symbiont, Adira could return to the academy for some additional training, bringing a fresh perspective and inspiring the next generation of cadets. Their journey of self-discovery and integration with the Tal symbiont offers rich storytelling opportunities, and we'd love to see more of their growth and interactions.
4. Paul Stamets: The Guest Lecturer We All Need
Paul Stamets, the pioneering astromycologist and chief engineer of the USS Discovery, would make an exceptional guest lecturer at Starfleet Academy. His expertise in the spore drive technology and mycelial network would provide cadets with invaluable insights into the cutting-edge science of space exploration. Stamets’ no-nonsense attitude and deep passion for his work would undoubtedly captivate students and viewers alike.
3. Philippa Georgiou: Recruiting for Section 31
Philippa Georgiou, the enigmatic and formidable former Emperor of the Terran Empire, could bring a thrilling edge to Starfleet Academy. Imagine Georgiou, now a Section 31 operative, scouring the academy for the brightest and most cunning minds to recruit for covert missions. Her interactions with the cadets would be a fascinating blend of intimidation and mentorship, making for some truly compelling television.
2. Saru: Diplomatic Mission Mentor
Saru, the noble Kelpien who has served as captain of the USS Discovery, is a character whose wisdom and diplomacy could greatly benefit Starfleet cadets. Picture Saru leading a group of cadets on a high-stakes diplomatic mission, teaching them the delicate art of interstellar negotiation and the importance of empathy and understanding in leadership. His calm and composed demeanor, even when making a threat, would provide a stabilizing influence, guiding cadets through the complexities of diplomacy.
1. Jett Reno: Just Give Us More Tig Notaro
Jett Reno, the sharp-witted and resourceful engineer played by Tig Notaro, is a character we can't get enough of. We don't care how she makes it onto the show—whether as a guest instructor, a surprise mentor, or simply dropping by to fix a crucial piece of academy tech. Reno’s dry humor, ingenuity, and unorthodox approach to engineering would add a delightful spark to Starfleet Academy. More of Tig Notaro's performance is always a good thing, and we're eagerly hoping to see her character make an appearance.
As we await the premiere of Starfleet Academy, these characters represent the diverse talents and unique perspectives that could enrich the series. Each brings something special to the table, promising to make the academy experience as engaging and dynamic as possible. Here’s to hoping these Discovery favorites join the roster and continue to boldly go where no one has gone before.
