Viacom and CBS sittin’ in a tree...S-T-R-E-A-M-I-N-G...or something. It looks as though the newly-merged ViacomCBS may be thinking about capitalizing on the new breadth of its content portfolio, and looking to expand its streaming offering.

According to a report from CNBC yesterday, “people familiar with the matter” say that ViacomCBS is considering creating an uber-service that could combine CBS All Access with other Viacom streaming services, like Pluto TV, Nickelodeon, BET, MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Pictures, and perhaps throw Showtime into the mix too.

The theoretical umbrella service would have multiple subscription levels, and at least some of them would be ad-free. The base service is likely to be under $10 a month, CNBC’s sources said. There would also be a premium version, which would include Showtime.

Star Trek fans might find this idea appealing; if it comes to fruition, the new service could be a definitive home of Star Trek (at least in America), with one service supplying all Star Trek television and film properties. Currently, no one streaming service, even Amazon Prime Video or Netflix, is able to offer all Star Trek series and movies at once.

Of course, it’s not clear from the CNBC article what, if anything, all of this might mean for the availability of Star Trek on other services. The strategy seems to have been that a diverse portfolio is better; you can currently stream most Star Trek on Netflix and Amazon, in addition to CBS All Access. But since ViacomCBS is really only a couple months old, it’s hard to say what the strategy will be going forward.

CNBC says we can expect to hear more about ViacomCBS’s streaming strategy - including the new super-service - in their 4th quarter earnings call on February 20th.
