OCTOBER 17, 2021 - The latest episode of The Ready Room with Wil Wheaton may have been focused on the season finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks, but at the very end of the episode, fans were given a special treat: a sneak peek at the season premiere of Star Trek: Prodigy, which drops in less than two weeks.

The scene, running just shy of one minute, shows the rag-tag group that takes over the USS Protostar still in the early stages of coming together, as Brikar crew member Rok-Tahk introduces her shipmates to their latest addition, Murf. Unfortunately, the others weren’t expecting anyone else to join them, and their uncertainty about this blob-like creature in their midst is summed up pretty succinctly by Dal, who remarks, “You invited that thing?” Tellarite Jankom Pog joins in with an incredulous, “What is that bag of spit?”

Their doubts about Murf (who has already started to chow down on one of Pog’s tools) are interrupted, however, as Medusan Zero alerts them to a group of robot sentries called Watchers who are headed their way. Afraid getting caught will end their escape before it even begins, Zero pleads with Dal, “You’re a survivor. Help us survive.”

For a less-than-60-second clip, the preview already offers a glimpse into some of the character dynamics of Prodigy, as well as some of the threat these young adventurers will face as they seek to escape their exiled existence on an oppressive mining colony. The full story (complete with holographic Captain Janeway) will begin October 28th, streaming on Paramount+.
