WATCH: Star Trek: Discovery releases new footage from the first episode of season 3
CBS All Access have released special footage, two full minutes of it, from the premiere episode of Star Trek: Discovery season three.
The footage was played right at the start of the Discovery section of yesterday’s Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con’s Metaverse; Michael Burnham actor Sonequa Martin-Green introduced the clip, saying, “We’ve got a little something for you. We’ve got a little sneak peek of the first episode.”
The footage starts with a small ship being chased through a wreckage by a larger ship. Inside the small ship we see newcomer David Ajala as Cleveland “Book” Booker, seemingly alone and clearly trying to get away from whoever’s in that larger ship. The tech inside Book’s ship is super-minimalist and super-high-tech; rather than the flat console screens we are used to seeing, the ship’s controls move and change as Book operates them.
Book takes a call on the holographic viewscreen. It’s someone called “Cosmo” who accuses Book of stealing something from him. Book retorts, “It doesn’t belong to you, it belongs to itself. Open your damn mind.”
Just then, a space-time anomaly appears nearby, and Burnham in the Red Angel suit comes flying out and collides with Book’s ship. Both go down on a nearby planet, with Burnham narrowly avoiding a serious crash by rebooting the suit. The end of the footage takes us neatly to roughly where we started in the official trailer that was released last month.
The rest of the Discovery panel was taken up discussing what they could about the upcoming season (spoiler-free, of course!), as well as introducing the audience to the three newest cast members: Ajala, as well as Blu del Barrio (who plays Adira) and Ian Alexander (who plays Gray).
Just a reminder: Star Trek: Discovery season three will premiere on CBS All Access from next Thursday, October 15th. International audiences can watch it on Netflix, starting Friday, October 16th.
