A Star Trek Series Wins a Major Award At the 2022 Saturns
OCTOBER 28, 2022 - Since 1973 the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films has been recognizing the best in genre film and television. Star Trek has garnered its share of the attention, and this year is no exception.
TrekMovie has a rundown of the results from Tuesday night’s ceremonies, into which the franchise went with six nominations across five categories. As it turned out, the only winner was Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for Best Streaming Science Fiction Series. Its competition included The Expanse, For All Mankind, Lost in Space, The Mandalorian, The Orville: New Horizons, and Star Trek: Discovery.
The ceremony also included a tribute to Nichelle Nichols, introduced by Star Trek screenwriter and director, Nicholas Meyer. It included video from the International Space Station and NASA astronaut Jessica Watkins.

In addition, the Saturn Awards noted in a tweet that Kathryn Leigh Scott was receiving her Lifetime Career Award. Scott appeared as the Mintakan leader Nuria in Star Trek: The Next Generation’s season three episode, “Who Watches the Watchers.” (She is also well known as Maggie Evans – and three other characters – in the original Dark Shadows, appearing alongside Ryan Mitchell, who appeared in TNG as William Riker’s father, Kyle.)
Congratulations to all the award recipients!
