Captain Janeway Bust Unveiled With Kate Mulgrew In Attendance
OCTOBER 25, 2022 - Almost three years to the day, we told you about the announced efforts to build a statue of Captain Kathryn Janeway in the town where she will be born, on May 20 2336, in Bloomington, Indiana. That statue has since been completed, unveiled, and, after pandemic-imposed delays, Kate Mulgrew has finally been able to pay Janeway a visit in person. That happened over the weekend.
You can see video of the event on Facebook. During her remarks, Mulgrew pointed out how she is still so in touch with Janeway, that as she approached Bloomington after driving from a family reunion in Iowa, she began to wonder which house Janeway will live in. Looking at the statue, she noted how unflinching and proud Janeway is.
Later the same day, Mulgrew participated in a Q&A at another venue, which you can also watch on Facebook. She began by saying that she knew minimal information about Star Trek, not being a fan, but that over the seven years of her life during which she portrayed the captain, Janeway became very important to her, she grew to love Janeway deeply, and Janeway has never left her.
Our own Marina Kravchuk was there as well and concluded, “Kate is fantastic!”
Kate Mulgrew had much more to say about her journey with Captain Kathryn Janeway, so follow those links to continue the voyage.
