APRIL 13, 2022 - Ahead of their summer product launch, Star Trek actor John de Lancie has teamed up with Playmates Toys in a new online campaign, guiding prospective shoppers through Playmates’ new line of officially licensed Star Trek action figures. The toymaker announced the partnership with de Lancie late last week.

PlaymatesStarTrekToys.com is meant to be your one-stop shop for all of your action figure needs. Per the release, “the site replicates the series’ LCARS operating system and provides users with detailed information about the characters, ships and gears, as well as 360 degree imagery of the Playmates products.” The site also contains retailer information. For his part, de Lancie’s character “Q” will be on hand to guide visitors to the site, and even prod you when you’re being stubborn. Beyond that, de Lancie “will appear in an ongoing series of social media vignettes and other streamable content throughout 2022” across Playmates’ Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter channels.

If you’ve been collecting the Playmates Toys line of Star Trek action figures for decades, there’s more good news! Packaging for their new line of action figures will be a faithful replication of the original boxes from the 1990s, keeping your entire collection looking as streamlined as, well, a starship.

From 1992-2009, Playmates Toys held the licensure for the Star Trek brand. Back in 2021, the company announced their return to the Star Trek brand, with eight new figures from The Original Series, The Next Generation, and Discovery currently available for pre-order. Those figures are expected to be ready for shipment in July of this year. Featuring the crew of the U.S.S. Protostar, a line of Star Trek: Prodigy figures will be ready to ship this fall. Both collections are available for preorder now from Entertainment Earth.
